The reference points suggest Cerebral Ballzy care little for innovation, but they've nevertheless created the best US punk debut for some time. [Sept. 2011, p. 98]

It's the perfect companion piece to last year's masterful OFF! Blast, The First Four EPs. Hardcore lives!

They trash out a slew of throwaway instant classics and refresh a well-worn format for no better motive than the fact that they can. [30 Jul 2011, p.51]

By sticking to a strict formula of short, frenzied blasts of razor-wire guitars and mosh-inciting rhythms, Cerebral Ballzy have gobbed out an absolutely fluff-free album. [Aug 2011, p.112]
  5. They're most fun when they're really letting loose, though, which is pretty much always.

Cerebral Ballzy is an album too desperate for your immediate attention to have any concerns beyond the last bar of 'Anthem'.

Produced by The Bronx's Joby J Ford--who has also worked with Californian hardcore punks Trash Talk, whose MO is much the same as Cerebral Ballzy's--this eponymous set does a good job of transporting the band's ferocious live show into one's living room.

He sounds like a chaos orchestrator--the sound of his voice alone can get people moving in the wrong direction--and he's the best part of this adrenalized fecklessness.

    ADHD-powered hardcore New York punk. [Sept. 2011, p. 104]
  10. Its main virtue: brevity. Most songs are sub-2 minutes, and the entire album is over in 20.
  11. Aug 1, 2011
It's fun, there's no time to get bored, but shorn of the context of first-wave hardcore-- a music that forever altered heavy guitar bands' approach to velocity--it's a bit empty.

This album features perfectly serviceable and perfectly competent, middle-of-the-road punk rock music that probably sounds much better live than it ever could in a recording studio.

The songs are trite punk workouts without any real imagination and, whilst there's a reasonable amount of endeavour and vigour, they're unlikely to raise anything other than idle curiosity amongst the curious idle.
