This is the Jarvis Cocker French language album you never knew you needed in your life. Or maybe you did. French pop music is something I'm not hugely familiar with outside of the band AIR of whom I'd be a fan. I'm also a big Jarvis fan so I guess there was always a chance I'd like this. I'm still surprised at how much I enjoy listening to it considering I don't understand a word of it.This is the Jarvis Cocker French language album you never knew you needed in your life. Cocker's vocal unmistakable delivery suits the language and the material quite well. He's done sultry before but usually ironically, delivering some of his Pulp material from the point of view of depraved voyeurs that you'd definitely call the police on. Sung in French, he could be telling the same story but hilariously, this time it sounds seductive. "Chansons d'Ennui Tip Top" is another great entry in the back catalog of the ever intriguing Jarvis Cocker. Expand

The whole album is a treat, and a fun way to pass a half hour or so. Hopefully the movie it’s attached to is just as fun, just as playful, and just as silly. Wonderful stuff – purchase with confidence.

'Chansons d’Ennui Tip-Top' might be the strongest album Cocker has released since his 2006 debut, but that does the dirty on ‘Beyond the Pale’ and ‘Further Complications’. This is an album made with love. Love for the culture of his adopted home, but mostly a love of music in all its forms and styles.

The faithful arrangements deprive the collection of any real edge – "Elle Et Moi" should be sexier – but this is not the place for surprises. [Dec 2021, p.25]
