Jherek Bischoff does not mess around. It’s amazing to see an artist make such pure, uncompromising music.

The album Cistern is thoughtful and meticulous, agile and artful.

The result is a suite of modern classical pieces that freewheel on orbits both real and imagined; a caul of percolating strings, woodwind and guitar, circumnavigating in loose patterns.

Like its older sibling, the songs on Cistern exist independently of each other. The nine tracks feel connected only by the fact that they share the same space on record, more like a collection of long takes rather than a movie.
