Not like Woods ever made crappy music, but this stuff is just plain great.
"Sun City Creeps" might be one of the best songs of 2016. Worth a hundred spins.

This is a great album, highly underrated. I think this album should broaden their appeal, but doesn't seem to be getting the attention it deserves. Pitchfork takes issue with the lead singer, unfairly, in my opinion.

A comfortable but nonetheless adventurous next step for this secretly brilliant band. [No. 131, p.61]

Across a decade and eight LPs, Brooklyn fivepiece Woods have perfected a lo-fi folk prone to spastic jam breakdowns. Ninth offering City Sun Eater in the River of Light now shatters any preconceived notions.

Their ninth throws in an unexpected brass section, some pedal steel guitar and even reggae, while retaining the band’s core mellifluousness. It’s a minor masterstroke, making City Sun Eater… a quirky but eminently listenable record.
