Mr. Matthews has decided he’s not going to be the grumpy old man he sings about in Come Tomorrow, but he doesn’t sugarcoat things either; each song notes the fears and sorrows it’s determined to overcome. The music does that, with consolation in its melodies and a life force in its rhythms.

Without Tinsley nor the late LeRoi Moore, Dave Matthews Band doesn't seem as loopy or rangy as it did in its prime, yet this leaner sound suits a middle-aged Matthews who is comfortable in his skin yet restless in his mind.

Mostly, though, he explores the mature, singer-songwriter side he's developed during recent work like 2012's Away From the World, getting quiet, contemplative, and unusually sweet on songs both lush ("Here On Out") and comparatively spare ("Black and Blue Bird").

The album tells a story from birth to adulthood. The subtlety of “Here On Out” to the driving sound of “She” and the festival feel of “Can’t Stop” brings together decades of excellence. The new album speaks to the base of Dave Matthews Band and welcomes a new generation of potential fans. In a cynical world this album brings hope and love. Full Review »

However when I compare this to other albums that are coming out I personally don't think it is too far off. Maybe you could drop it to 8 or 9. It is a very enjoyable listen almost from start to finish. Two songs were a little slow to grow on me but otherwise I love it. Here On Out, She, Again and Again, Black and Blue Bird and Do You Remember stand out as my favorites for this album. One nice twist is this album does contain at least a snippet of music from both Moore and Tinsley despite Moore's passing and Tinsley's departure. Full Review »

Instead after it was released and the album is judged from track to track like they all should be it is his best work since Big Whiskey. In my humble opinion Dave’s back. Gone are the days of tripping billies because as he said, he is now sober, but the music and the riff of “do you remember” prove Dave’s best years are not behind him. Instead we could be see a Bruce like come back. But the odds are against it. Still this albums’ success should put Dave Matthews in the rock and roll hall of fame. It debuted at number one with no marketing, unlike Mr. West, who holds specials. Dave was the king of Rock for over 15 years he deserves recognition. Full Review »
