Ultimately, Years & Years are so passionately in touch with their influences, they've transformed them into something new and full of the light.

Years & Years may not be with us for the long haul. But right now, they're picture perfect. [Aug 2015, p.110]

Here, and on the album’s other highlights, the air of mercantile anonymity feels generous rather than cynical, the music as anxious to accommodate its imagined audience.

Behind the dance bump, Communion is confessional synth-pop with a heart full of heavy feelings.

Years & Years don’t seem to have an original idea in their collective heads, but that doesn’t neccessarily mean that Communion is unenjoyable.

Even if Years & Years aren’t taking any risks with the sound of the moment, they use it to good effect.
  7. Communion takes no risks and says nothing.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Okay...... So I found years & years from the Y&Y EP. And I loved the songs Desire and King. Then I found a new album was coming. Bought the CD and man..... This album is pretty underwhelming. The singer has an excellent voice so I was hoping the production on a lot of these tracks was a bit more potent and enticing. As it stands this record is just too safe, probably because these guys were becoming very mainstream in 2015. But I expected a great record, what I got was just a barely decent one. There were a few good songs, others were just kinda empty. Expand
