It's really atmospheric metalcore. The light, airy nature of it make it incredibly relaxing. There's a sense of emotion to go along with the heaviness of the themes the album carries. The lyrics touch on topics like the more negative aspects of politics and religion.

While there isn't much variation in the vocal work, the tone of the album keeps things strong across it's 11 tracks. Time breezes by as the album sucks you in. It reaches it's hooks into you almost immediately. It's some of the most emotionally effective music I've listened to. It drew me into it in ways few other songs have, much less full albums.

Even with it's heaviness there's something remarkably calm about Daybreaker. It's some of the easiest listening music I've heard from this genre. Stuff you can sit down and read a book to, while simultaneously making you want to breakdown in the mosh pit. An album that's pretty perfect no matter what mood you're in. Even more impressive is that it manages to do so without sacrificing the sense of energy or aggression the genre is known for.

In an attempt to create the perfect blend of 00's metalcore/post-hardcore while experimenting into the new era of what metalcore could be, Architects managed to create a unique masterpiece by blending their traditional technical skills perfected in "hollow crown" with progressive hardcore elements from their previous post-hardcore album "the here and now" all while creating the blueprintsIn an attempt to create the perfect blend of 00's metalcore/post-hardcore while experimenting into the new era of what metalcore could be, Architects managed to create a unique masterpiece by blending their traditional technical skills perfected in "hollow crown" with progressive hardcore elements from their previous post-hardcore album "the here and now" all while creating the blueprints of their genre defining djent style in their albums yet to come. This makes "Daybreaker" a truly unique work of art forged from both the state of the scene of that era and a courageous venture into uncharted territory to pave a style of their own that is ubiquitous in metalcore today, making them pioneers years ahead of their time. It's safe to say that sadly we will never get an album like this ever again but I am genuinely glad I was alive to experience it and that it still exists for any metalcore listener looking to enjoy a definitive slice of heavy music history. Although it was not nearly as commercially or critically successful as their upcoming works, Daybreaker will go down in history as a one of a kind legend that served as the first step in the bands inevitable path to super stardom and I am glad I was alive to experience it when it first came out. Daybreaker will forever be me favorite architects album and one of the best pieces of art I have ever experienced! Expand

Though the album is assembled well, and almost anyone will find the playing impressive, it won't please everyone.

    A powerful return to form.
  3. Forging a path not quite dismissing their last batch of cuts, Architects' drive to re-assert their heavier influences makes for a back-and-forth slug match that draws on a little too long at points – yet is still memorable enough to keep you coming back for the highlights.
