Even though it has some misfires, this album is still understatedly fun, driven by a pure zest for blues music that is impossible to shy away from.

While the studio’s energy is palpable on record, ‘Delta Kream’ is likely to appeal mostly to Dan and Patrick’s fellow blues nerds over anyone else.

While this record is unlikely to bring the band or the cultural touchstones they cover back to the top, it’s a soul-searching move that satisfies their own fandom while showing they’ll never compromise.

While Brown's easygoing, singing guitar is the clear star throughout the record, something feels off overall, since the renditions here rarely live up to the originals. [May 2021, p.75]

If you're after the next album from the Black Keys and want something that takes what they were building towards with Let's Rock and Turn Blue and injects it into a new album, then you need to look elsewhere.
Delta Kream has more in common with the raw sounds of The Big Come Up than it does El Camino.
For fans of blues covers, you'll probably really enjoy this. For fans of The Black Keys recent work, you'll be bored after one listen. If you even manage that.

It’s like a throwback to the early raw Black Keys days. It replicates historic and under appreciated delta blues geniuses. It is really, really good rock with driving rhythms and raw guitar riffs. Every song is special. On the downside, it’s hard to reinvent the blues...wait...The Black Keys did that. Now they return to their roots and it should be revered. In the framework of The BK discography this is up there with my favorites. Full Review »
