I honestly couldn't stand this band before. But then I heard this album & it completely changed my mind. Craig Owens has a lot more control & versatility in his delivery now, and it works wonders no matter what approach he's going for. Also the instrumentation is surprisingly diverse, juggling influences from their usual post-hardcore, metalcore, alt-rock, pop-punk & even hip hop in oneI honestly couldn't stand this band before. Also the instrumentation is surprisingly diverse, juggling influences from their usual post-hardcore, metalcore, alt-rock, pop-punk & even hip hop in one case. The lyrics can also get really immersive on Devil, tackling making amends to loved ones, going off on others & individuality. Whether you're a fan already or couldn't get into them before, I see no reason not to like this.

Devil certainly retains Chiodos' original sound, with original vocalist Craig Owens back on the forefront of the band. There are a few songs which really stand out to me, and others which I thought were a bit of a letdown, but overall the album is worth a listen, because like me, chances are there will be at least two or three songs that really stand out to you. If you like classic Chiodos, this is most likely for you. If you prefer Brandon's more post-hardcore oriented sound, then you may find this album a bit of a disappointment. Expand

Owens is still lyrically overblown and adolescent with his themes, but his band have found a way to make their progressive intentions fit their punk rock. [Jul 2014, p.104]

Not only do tracks like Looking For A Tornado sound great, they also have a distinct air of authenticity about them. [5 Apr 2014, p.53]
  3. Even though this isn't peak Chiodos (yet), Devil has the band on the right path to reclaiming the the top spot of the scene food chain sooner rather than later.
