What really works in Dilate's favour is that this is very much an album, an experience that's designed through its pacing and mastering to be taken in a single sitting. That's a bold ask in a digital age of playlists and single track downloads but the rewards in acquiescing to their request are manifold.

Throughout the album, Vessels' different approaches flow so naturally that they feel effortless, arriving at an impressive blend of passion and precision.

Resisting the twin urges to oversimplify or over-complicate where inappropriate, Vessels may have succeeded in making one of the smartest and most beguiling electronic albums of the year.

It’s not packed with bangers, and the vocal tracks are a let-down, but as a fresh statement from a band that has promised and delivered much in the past, it’s exciting to hear them go down this route.

The results are largely persuasive. [Apr 2015, p.96]

This is a solid attempt by a band in thrall to electronic music to redefine themselves, but it’s their love of this music rather than their ability to explore its limits that is communicated by Dilate.

The occasional vocals dilute the atmosphere, softening the bionic techno edge of the best tracks, but on Dilate, Vessels sound like a band widening their horizons to impressive effect. [Apr 2015, p.112]

The build up felt very much like a sunset, as the track got more intense, it felt like I was entering a crowd, alive and energetic. I was engulfed in the atmosphere. This feeling pushed through the entirety of the album. On tracks with vocal guests, the production tended to get weaker, but overall, this album was one I'm not going to put away anytime soon. Feels like you're riding your bike down the rode at night with bright, white lights reflecting off of the asphalt. Maybe you're being chased. Maybe you're chasing something. Either way, it's a thrill. Expand
