Depois de cair nas graças da critica com o lançamento de algumas mixtape, Angel assinou um contrato com a Universal. Só que para o lançamento do seu álbum debut ela entrou um conflito com os executivos da gravadora sobre a data de lançamento. Então, depois de uma séria de mensagens no Twitter mostrando a seu desapontamento Angel resolveu "vazar" o próprio álbum no finalzinho do ano passado, quase três meses da data oficial. Com isso, o lançamento de Dirty Gold foi adiantado para 30 de Dezembro. As vendas nos Estados Unidos chegaram ao "incrível" vendagem de menos de 1 mil cópias e nem apareceu na Bilboard 200. Infelizmente, esse número não reflete no potencial que podemos ouvir no trabalho de Angel Haze no álbum.
Dirty Gold é um álbum que poderia ser genial, mas se perde em certos momentos quando perde a oportunidade de sair do lugar seguro e deixar Angel brilhar como deveria. Porém, isso não quer dizer que Angel não consiga deixar sua marca. Como rapper ela é uma força que dever ser reconhecida. Seguindo um caminho mais tradicional tendo como influência nomes como Eminem e Kanye West, Angel entrega performances sólidas ao longo de todo o álbum. Há uma força primaria na forma como ela faz "diz" as palavras que consegue cativar quem ouve convencendo do talento dela. As composições são boas como um todo, mas não há momentos de puro brilhantismo seja na forma em que as palavras são colocados ou nos temas que Angel discorre sendo entre eles amor, religião e a sua própria vida como os problemas com sua mãe. Não há, porém, momentos fracos só que faltou elementos mais poderosos para incrementar as canções como, por exemplo, a boa Angels & Airwaves. O maior problema enfrentado por Angel são as produções que caminham no toada que parece faltou ousadia para dar para Dirty Gold uma sonoridade mais conceitual e menos previsível. A parceira em Battle Cry com a cantora/compositora Sia é boa, mas parece faixa feita para tocar nas rádios e fazer Angel estourar no mainstream. Uma pena já que boas canções como Echelon (It's My Way), Black Synagogue e Black Dahlia poderiam ser momentos inesquecíveis. Um momento em que é possível captar as possibilidades da sonoridade de Angel é a canção New York incluída na versão deluxe. Ainda no começo da carreira Angel ainda pode se tornar a rapper que ela tem a capacidade de se tornar. Só o tempo dirá.…Expand
