The production on Dummy Boy is amazing. Tay Keith, Scott Storch, Murda Beatz and Ronny J among others lace 6 with some beats that match his "wavy" sound and style perfectly. The tracks are heavy on the bottom and have lots of room for 6 to flex his sing-song melodic flow.

Although songs like “BEBE” kindly pay tribute to 6ix9ine’s Puerto Rican roots, his rapping quickly proves to be tolerable in tiny, almost microscopic doses, while the album closer “DUMMY” is like a carbon copy of the homogenized sound currently infiltrating mainstream rap.

    Energetic but scattered.

If your first language is, say, Russian or Chinese, then you might enjoy the musicality of some of 6ix9ine’s verses even though they blur together. Unfortunately, Dummy Boy is not improved with a knowledge of English, and indeed that might be an obstacle to enjoying the album.

Dummy Boy is unlikely to disappoint 6ix9ine fans, but for everyone else, there's little to back up the hype and controversy associated with the self-professed "King of New York."

His blend of garish Day-Glo net art and brawling homage to the glory years of DMX and Onyx may be a commercially effective millennial update of Rotten Apple thug rap. But aesthetically, his distinct lack of lyrical talent and annoyingly hyperactive presence often undermines the whole thing.

What Dummy Boy lacks in maturity and creativity it makes up for in energy and vitriol.

Mostly the standard fare of Tekashi throwing sounds and flows at the wall, praying something sticks.

Dummy Boy would be better if it was worse. 6ix9ine doesn’t show any sign of knowing how to write a complete song, let alone curate a whole album. But he’s also too unimaginative to write anything so jaw-droppingly awful that it needs to be heard to be believed.

DUMMY BOY is an insufferable 13-track farrago of anything from rock riffs to calypso drums, all pinned by 6ix9ine’s obsessive use of the “n” word, along with every other negative trope found in the gangsta rap of the early Noughties. ... Avoid.
  11. Dummy Boy is one of the most unlistenable rap records of this year. ... He’s delivered a bland project. Often, it’s as though he took what was in his drafts folder and released it as a “studio album.”

There are many bad albums that came out this year but there are few where the artist is the absolute worst part of the entire project. LilThere are many bad albums that came out this year but there are few where the artist is the absolute worst part of the entire project. Lil Xan's Total XAnarchy is terrible throughout because of him and terrible production that drags down guests but 6ix9ine somehow has decent to good production to back up his god awful lyrics and rap style. Gone are the hype songs like Gunmo that at least feel a bit original in their delivery and instead, he tries to replicate the dozens of sounds that trended throughout the year. All of his guest features, from Tory Lanez to two Kanye West verses, outshine him and are the only reason to hear the song. If you honestly needed a reason to ever listen to it. Full Review »

This album hardly feel's like a 6ix9ine album at times with how hard he relies on the features. You can take that for better or worseThis album hardly feel's like a 6ix9ine album at times with how hard he relies on the features. You can take that for better or worse depending if you can stand the guy. He relies on gimmicks and trends and I definitely get the sense he is using his meme potential to push the albums (the cover, song titles, lyrics). It leaves some questions though, How long will his tricks last? Will people still be interested in hearing from this guy say a couple years from now? Is anyone actually listening cause the music? Cause right now (especially with his federal case) it's not looking good for the guy. Full Review »
