A mixed bag, it's not among his worst albums but it's not on par with the surprisingly good stuff he's been releasing in recent years. For starters it's too long - it's nearly an hour long and there's definitely a handful of tracks that should've been banished to B-side purgatory. But there are a few gems: "i Don't Know," "Fuh You" (actually I'd like to see someone like Grimes or Robyn cover this - Paul had reservations about whether it should be for him when he wrote it with Tedder) and "Dominoes" stand out the most. A handful of others are tuneful trifles - not major compositions or great songs, but the type of catchy, pretty melodies that feel so effortless coming from McCartney. In short, it's one for the playlists and your homemade comps. Expand

Quirky and fun album without much of a concept. Could have done without a lot of the songs on it. I'm amazed at how great his voice sounds at 76. I guess, as part of the greatest pop band of all time, McCartney doesn't have a lot to prove anymore. Let him have his fun!

Thankfully, McCartney appears to be grasping the nettle and squeezing the most out of life and his apparently never-ending songbook. A definite thumbs up.

Sure, the lyrical content on Egypt Station isn't necessarily a work of pure genius, but it's pure Paul and that means a great deal.

While the loping acoustic guitar figure that drives “Happy With You” isn't nearly as compositionally compelling, it's one of the only other songs here in which it sounds like McCartney is actually singing about something real. ... There are a few other tonally comparable songs on the 16-track Egypt Station, but the rest are largely bogged down in some eye-rolling cliché of one kind or another.
