It’s Avril meets Hole meets Wolf Alice. It’s New Wave meets grunge meets pop-punk meets indie. Dreamy, beautiful, serene, moody - it’s an excellent debut record and perfect for the grayer, colder months ahead.

An absolutely stunning album, from someone who's been listening to albums for a while. I more than enjoyed her EP's, Loveworm especially, and in Fake It Flowers, she truly encapsulates the sound of late 90's-early 00's grunge and pop-rock at the same time in a very impressive display. One of the few artists I can truly say I fangirl in entirety over Bea. Already am going to be waiting for the next one. The main thing that stood out for me was the raw emotion used in the lyrics as well as the instrumentals, both of which display the anger, happiness, fear, etc of the artist herself. She's a world-class talent, and I'm proud to call myself a fan! Expand

Amazing alternative debut album!!!! 90s and 00s nostalgia. It reminded me of Alanis Morissette. Totally recommended!

i like this album because i like bea in general but i’m a bit disappointed. i found it very weak lyrically, and there were a lot of repetitions and similarities to her older songs. kinda just feels like an extension of loveworm and space cadet :/

Best thing that’s ever been released. I cried. Listened to it three times. I’m in shock. This is the soundtrack to my life, Bea is beyond talented I don’t even know how to speak English anymore. This album has hit my soul and anyone listening needs to appreciate the gift she has given us. Too gassed to see it live.

The best album this year, one of the best debuts I’ve ever heard, Bea truly brings all the emotion, nostalgia and a perfectly pictured coming of age feel, standouts are Worth It, Dye It Red, Horen Sarrison & Together, a perfect album

This is a decent traditional pop album but one thing I really should have learned by now is to never ever trust a 5 star NME review. I don't know which teenage bedroom bloggers write for them these days but this is the second time I've been stung by them. The last was a 5 start review of the 1975 I read a few years back. That's not to say this isn't good. It is. beabadoobee is catchy pop in the style you might have come across on an American Pie soundtrack from 20 years back or so. Production is decent, songwriting isn't bad but lacks thematic variety. It has a bit of substance to it and it sounds like it has some semblance of personality which is in short supply in pop these days. Expand

Bea Kristi was born in Philiphines, grew up in London, and, with only 20 years old, she won a big public and acknowledgment thanks to her vision and influences in Rock. I declare myself as an immediate and proud fan of her music since this, her album debut, helped me to unleash my intensity and sensibility with a certain harmony. The balance that Beatrice achieves in this album is to be admired because her Grunge and Garage soften the angriness embedded in the heart and exploits the warmth in the hugs that we should give ourselves to remember how much we worth. Her lyrics add an idea of maturity that fearlessly expresses the thoughts that transit between the will and the need. In the end, this Pop Rock feels so intimate and cozy that, suddenly, always can be the appropriate time to dance and sway with this musical dilemma, as rampant as tender.

Time machine back to the 90’s. Great music! My favorite song is Sorry, a very moody and beautiful song with a very interesting chord progression and melody.

Vocally, it is not solid. Lyrically, it can be crude [which makes it tolerable]. Sonically, it's a good start. This girl has a lot of potential to show and there are some songs to prove it; the production of "Back To Mars" and "Horen Sarrison" are very well. She's still finding her own identity, and I'm glad she didn't pursue the "death bed" fame because that song is pretty disappointing.Vocally, it is not solid. A very nice sounding and well produced album with beautiful mixtures of grunge and bedroom pop, however there is no ground breaking new sounds pushed forward on the album instead it reminisces on the past making it at points sound less original or heard before

The sound throughout every track is very addictive. Even though the instrumentals are a solid 9, the lyrics bring down my rating. I know this is a very raw album for Bea but it reads a little too much like a diary. I’m aware that Bea has talked about it being from her diary but it’s like she took random words and tried to rhyme with her personal diary. It just doesn’t have a good flow. Most of the songs aren’t like this but the few that are really brought down the rating as a whole. Tracks like “Yoshimi, Forest, Magdalene” & “Horen Sarrison” being the some of the more raw tracks, lack a pleasing lyric flow. Overall i think beabadoobee is an amazing artist who has a lot of potential, i can’t wait to see what she does in the future. Expand

Fake It Flowers won’t blaze any new trails and beabadoobee is a far cry from a pioneer, but for a brief moment in the sun, her debut is both gratifying and immediate. There’s no reason not to bask in it.

Just as judging the past from the present can be a fraught undertaking, weighing up the throwback 90s indie du jour by the standards of the decade itself is probably unfair too, but you wish Beabadoobee could muster a little more period-perfect surliness.
