Solid record. Not as progressive as their other records, but man does this album slap. It's a solid 42 minutes of pure fun. This album may not be for everyone and if you don't like it the you'll probably like one of their other albums, although I do recommend giving this one a chance.

They ditch the prog-metal in favor of a Tame Impala meets Canned Heat sound that effortlessly fuses a wide range of elements into a psychedelic blues-rock style.

Overall, I love the topic/concept and some of the songs definitely stand out as great tracks, however a felt like a lot of the beginning tracks sounded too similar to one another. I also enjoy the take on the blues, but the harmonica gets to be too much at times. solid record though

It's a little disappointing that everything is in equal temperament and only one song is in 11/4 time, but on the second listen I was able to let go of expectations and realize that it slaps.

Fishing for Fishies is an album that makes you want to dance throughout. This is despite the fairly dark tone for a lot of songs lyrics, which creates a cool contrast. Although the band explore some new sounds (such as the electronic Cyboogie, the sound of which MUST be explored in an entire album). However, there are some songs which were slow burners for me (for example, The Bird

Here they lean too heavily on space-age boogie-rock. [Jul 2019, p.110]

This thirteenth album finds them starting to sound like a band who deserve the billing [at Alexandra Palace]. [Jun 2019, p.85]

While calling Fishing For Fishies stale at first may be a bit harsh, it becomes pronounced once you consider the adventurous image King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard has carved out for itself over the last five years. With this passive listening experience, rarely was I ever intrigued by the band’s songwriting.
