The hooks on this album are astronomical. Sorta tuned out of xiu xiu a bunch of albums ago but always knew they had something special in them, and I think it finally arrived. You couldn't call this indulgent, it's just too damn fun in spite if its bleak imagery.

I've been a huge Xiu Xiu fan since Knife Play, and this is one of the top albums easily. The band can be tough to appreciate sometimes, and the last few albums (aside from the amazing Twin Peaks album) have been a little lackluster. Forget is such a perfect distillation of their sound, and every single song on here is great. Even some of their classic stuff like Fabulous Muscles etc hadI've been a huge Xiu Xiu fan since Knife Play, and this is one of the top albums easily. Forget unites the best elements of Xiu Xiu, and has as of yet been grossly under appreciated by critics. It achieves accessibility without sacrificing Stewart's haunting, histrionic vocals and the band's distinct instrumentation. This is Xiu Xiu's magnum opus thus far. It achieves accessibility without sacrificing Stewart's haunting, histrionic vocals and the band's distinct instrumentation. This is Xiu Xiu's magnum opus thus far. Forget is triumphant and harrowing in turns, occupying the intersection between their darkest record, Angel Guts, and their lighter, poppier work, like Fabulous Muscles and The Air Force. Wondering and Get Up (the latter being an example of some of the band's best work to date) are sure to lure in new listeners, while Hay Choco Bananas, Petite, and the title track will satisfy longtime fans of Xiu Xiu's earliest work, like A Promise and Knife Play. This album is everything anyone could ask for. There's plenty of avant-garde Jamie Stewart and his dark vocals & lyrics, plus a healthy dose of the more pop-oriented Angela Seo to keep the instrumentals engaging, to keep the drums loud and throbbing. The Pitchfork reviewer feels that the lyrics are too dark and offensive, and somehow distracting. Contrarily, it is this dark and brutal honesty which sets Stewart and Xiu Xiu apart from the pack, and gives Xiu Xiu a level of artistic credibility which is hardly afforded to most contemporary experimental pop outfits. Forget adds a layer of gloss and sheen to the classic Xiu Xiu formula without easing the intensity or lowering the dose of darkness. Expand

I never listened to Xiu Xiu before upon my first listen through this album, and I was not expecting what I got. These instrumentals are abrasive as hell, and these lyrics are cryptic as ****

It sounds like a mixture of Marilyn Manson, Street Sects, and Swans with just a touch of David Bowie.

It's a pretty great album. I'm still trying to digest this thing... but I like it.

This album is just fantastic, I think it's one of Xiu Xiu's best records. While being their most accessible in therms of being experimental or dark it stills remain that somewhat sexual and depressing but beautiful style of them.
It has that experimental rock mixed with some electronic elements. A little bit of industrial. It's amazing overall

Forget is full of passion, the vocals are beautiful and unsettlingly theatrical, the music is otherworldly, moody, industrial, noisy, experimental and yet gorgeous. Xiu Xiu sounds like the perfect marriage between David Bowie and Nine Inch Nails in this album. Listening to Forget was a phenomenal experience and an album I'll definitely return to many times in the future.

Maybe Xiu Xiu are sometimes ridiculous, but human beings are ridiculous creatures; that’s why these songs feel so real.

It transmits a message in a coherent way and addresses social criticism of the current times, all of which places their new album among the year’s unforgettable ones.

Dark and luminous at the same time, Forget allows Xiu Xiu to redefine pop in a way that's true to their volatile--but always gripping--nature.
