Post Animal have managed to find a sound much more their own — both momentous and giddy, contemporary and sentimental.

All told, Forward Motion Godyssey isn't quite as much fun as Post Animal's debut, but they still deliver that characteristic warmth as well as uncommonly sharp hooks, fills, and theatrics of a nature that should delight air guitarists and drummers everywhere.

Despite the lesser tracks on the record, Forward Motion Godyssey is a strong sophomore attempt from Post Animal. The band still have yet to truly define their unique identity, but as they are now, they are one of the stronger genre-bending psychedelic rock groups around.

The further the band gets from their genre’s standard tropes, the more their dynamic lyricism and detail-oriented instrumentation get highlighted, resulting in a few breathtaking songs. But when packaged into Forward Motion Godyssey as a whole, the pacing is slightly off, making for a shaky rollercoaster ride of sounds that don’t always reach its thrilling peak. The ones that do, though, are exhilarating.

I think it was really nice to be able to hear each member stepping up to contribute more as individuals to something much bigger than them. The overall production quality was incredible and spatial and wholly greater than anything we’ve heard from Post Animal so far. It was also nice to hear that Wes is enjoying his new kit ;). Expand
