Four is hard to dislike: it's cheery, uplifting, high spirited and good fun.

Luckily on Four the scales are tipped heavily in favor of the kind of songs they do best, with the majority of them sounding like good-time hits that will go a long way toward warming up a cold November night.

Four [is] the most consisting-sounding Direction album yet.
  4. Instead of using that realization to push ahead, Four represents a step back in both sound and sensibility.

The band mainly shows growth through the music.

One Direction’s best and most fun album since its debut, and yet still curiously distant.

What’s unfortunate is that songs the group co-wrote are the weakest ones here. The exception is the aforementioned lead single, a Journey-inspired ballad that’s catchy regardless of how much my instincts demand instant dismissal. The other slower, anthemic numbers on the album are not nearly as inspired.

They still pop, which is very good, because they are pop artists and they will always be pop artists. Some songs are not very good, but other are are extremely amazing. When you hear the album for the first time you really get crazy with the songs. The lyrics and the sound of the songs are much better than their previous albums. Almost the full album was written by them. Now it feels that they are grown and mature enough to be artists. Expand

It's nothing groundbreaking, inspiring, or even noteworthy, but Four is not a zero by any means.

As far as teen pop goes, this album unfortunately represents the mainstream and is representative of One Direction at this point in time. Given the couple songs worth listening to, I honestly give it a 7.

Sure, the only subject is love, but this album isn't as bad as other boy band albums, and it certainly didn't give anyone AIDS, like most people act like it did. I'd call this album half-decent. And also, I don't blame Zayn for leaving. Listening to screaming teenage girls for 5 years can really tire you out. Expand
