  1. On ‘Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 2’, the producer meshes a wistful grab-bag of influences – nu-disco, funk, boogie, soul – with his skill for creating a mega-watt pop-hit, taking listeners on a journey on a psychedelic trip you won’t want to end.

It’s a fine wind-down album, one that can be put on shuffle at the end of a long-summer-night bacchanal, when revelers reach that point where they’re too tired to do anything but bask in the glow of the blowout they just threw.

A hazy collection of groove-driven vocal tracks featuring singers and rappers.

There’s something irresistibly joyous about the low-stakes funky feel Harris summons at will, no matter who’s at the mic.

The issue is that none of the songs that all this gorgeous production whirls around are actually any good.

The album starts off rocky but picks itself up for Woman of the Year, Obsessed, and New to You, with Stay with Me being another highlight. TheThe album starts off rocky but picks itself up for Woman of the Year, Obsessed, and New to You, with Stay with Me being another highlight. The rest of the tracks just all feel the same. It's a calm album with some good songs, but so many of them fall flat because of similar sounds. I also think there's a bit too much rap for my taste, but that's more preference than criticism. not that bad, the production is great but some songs are not. I love the intro.

Nothing really to see here beyond a Dj's attempt to re-captivate an audience that's moved on with lifeless big hitter features. What madeNothing really to see here beyond a Dj's attempt to re-captivate an audience that's moved on with lifeless big hitter features. What made Vol.1 interesting and fun is that it felt diverse, inventive and precise: it knew what it wanted to do . Vol.2 feels like a bad spotify playlist. This is not interesting. Expand

Calvin Harris has become absorbed by the success of his past work, and now has created a body of work that can be seen as a money-grab. WithCalvin Harris has become absorbed by the success of his past work, and now has created a body of work that can be seen as a money-grab. With big featuring artists and big production, the album unravels to be the same song over and over, but with various singers on each song. What makes the album more mediocre and generic is the lack of creativity and originality in its production and songwriting; like it's all been done before, because it has. Expand
