To me, this was one of the most disappointing albums of 2019. And it's not because it is bad, because it isn't. You can tell that these young boys from Reading, England, know what they are doing and have the potential to do it very well.

To me, this was one of the most disappointing albums of 2019. And it's not because it is bad, because it isn't. You can tell that these young boys from Reading, England, know what they are doing and have the potential to do it very well.

Rather, this album suffered from the "Juicy Steak" affect. They give us this delicious, unique, and savory introduction in the form of "Mother," the first single off of the album. The song oozes confidence, originality, and a killer guitar lick from Chris Alderton. That, backed with the rock solid vocal performance of Matthew Thomson and strong drum intro from Joe Emmett make this song an unbelievably strong beginning to "Future Dust."

The issue, for me, was what followed. The rest isn't bad, but it is never quite able to reach the level of our initial "Juicy Steak." Strong individual parts of some songs like the introduction to "No Doubt," and outro to "Georgia" show what this band can do, but this album struggles from inconsistency throughout.

Too much of the time, I was left with strong instrumental and vocal work, but basic lyrics that start to itch into mainstream pop territory.

For a band as talented and as deep as the Amazons, that should never be the case.

Again, not a bad album, but ultimately very disappointing when you weigh the potential of the first track.

    A classy return. [Summer 2019, p.108]

This is smart, sexy and it rocks like a wild thing. When the Future Dust settles, The Amazons might just stand as a band worth all the hype and more.

More often than not on Future Dust, they find themselves adopting a tame version of what they could produce. Limp and lifeless, Future Dust is an album from a band who can give much, much more.
