Urban's sixth American release is a lean collection of country-rockers and bedroom ballads.
  2. Nov 15, 2010
Country star Keith Urban's sixth release gives lie to the idea that angst is the best fuel for songwriting. On this lean but enjoyable eight-song set, Urban and his fellow songwriters are mostly in high spirits.

The sugared tunes would be easy to dismiss except for the credible guitar riffs, foot-tapping rhythms and fiery passion with which Keith sings. Thankfully, it's not all sunshine.

The singer and husband of Nicole Kidman sounds a bit more at ease here, which doesn't mean Get Closer lacks for pop-country pep; on no fewer than three songs do we find him jumping into a car and chasing his troubles away.

That's two versions of a daylight watch, from two ends of the romantic spectrum, and Mr. Urban sells them both. It's the emotional distance between them that lends this album, optimistically titled Get Closer, a hint of intimacy.
  6. Nov 15, 2010
Get Closer plays out as vintage Urban. Considering how long it's been since he really hit his marks this well, that makes the album a welcome return to form.
  7. Nov 30, 2010
Urban radiates psyched-ness - about his awesome marriage or the gathering power of crossover country - on summer jams and magnolia-scented ballads.

Very easy to listen to. Strong album with many good and strong tracks. The only problem is the length of the album if you have the standardVery easy to listen to. Strong album with many good and strong tracks. The only problem is the length of the album if you have the standard edition, needs more. Deluxe edition adds three extra new tracks that deserve to be in the standard edition. Expand
