With features from current genre dons Devlin, JME, Frisco, Flowdan and, of course, Skepta, it feels like a celebration of all grime achieved in 2016.

Wiley is back, and with a banger. There’s no dud on this rattling tour de force.

Both inspiring and inspired, Godfather completes Wiley's reclamation of self brilliantly. [Mar 2017, p.110]

Godfather is no mere retread, not the sound of youth but an idealised memory of it. [Mar 2017, p.56]

He's a mover and shaker who has every right to look back in pride, in personal pride. Godfather is the reaffirmation of a status.

Though the production lags at times, Wiley's performance overall is still a fitting conclusion to his groundbreaking journey in music.

IThis album is genuinely one of the best grime releases of recent times. It is Wiley's most cohesive release of his long career by far. I haven't been a fan of most Wiley albums, but "Godfather" is highly enjoyable from start to finish with no clear flaws. It is gritty, signature Wiley, with the best production grime has to offer. Best tracks are "Holy Grime", "Back With a Banger" and "Speakerbox". A must listen for any grime fan. Wiley has truly outdone himself on this one. Expand

I liked the music, thought the beats were pretty nice, and thought the lyrics were okay to vibe to, but I didn't see what all the fuss was about (why the album arrived to such widespread acclaim.) ... Then 'Back With A Banger' hits, and the album just takes the hell off. Something snaps in Wiley after this song, and every track after that just has the most intense banger beats, and the most badass and witty lyrics (literally every track without fail). This is a good album not just for raves, but also to vibe out to while you're studying or working, it's just good music. The lyrics aren't too explicit or too safe either, and the instrumentals feature hardcore percussion and bass decorated with lush strings and futuristic synths. It's overall just hard to find something to really dislike about this album. I guess there's a song or two that I wish could've been longer (there are some tracks that are great, but are annoyingly short, and leave you wanting more), but other than that, it's a super fun, hard-not-to-love album Expand
