One of my favorites so far this year, a perfect album to kick off the summer if you're feeling a little rough around the edges.

Such an underrated band. Great album on nostalgia and how we as humans far too often filter out the bad parts of our past in our heads and see them through rose colored glasses. Can't wait to see the new material live, never disappoints.

Incredible album! Just happy I came across this album. It’s been a pleasure digesting Eric D Johnson’s newest work of art! Big fan!

Johnson only reveals so much. Fruit Bats excel in that sort of space. Johnson sounds less becoming when he lets too much irony in.

Gold Past Life operates almost on two levels for Fruit Bats, the sheer pleasure of making fun music that draws on the things we’ve treasured from ages past, while consciously rejecting the temptation to live forever in that space. The result is a record that is both easy to leap into, and rewarding to stay in.

Not all of the dream-influenced Gold Past Life is sharp enough around the edges to propel Johnson away from cultdom, but the high-definition poignancy of Drawn Away and the title track's aggressive Bee Gees pastiche show him decisively pushing at the walls. [Aug 2019, p.111]
