This record feels like half reboot and half memoir. She goes out of her way to acknowledge the fact she’s not a teenager anymore, but with a gentle defiance, a little nostalgia and a subtle change in direction that makes Golden both touching but also really good fun.

She and her team of musicians, writers and producers straddle the line between twang and glitter on just about every song; sometimes it leans more in favor of line dancing, sometimes the glitter ball takes over, especially on the shimmering "Raining Glitter.". Sometimes, like on "Live A Little" or the very hooky single "Dancing," it's the best of both worlds.

While country signifiers abound, from foot-stomping to fiddling, the songs on Golden also smartly juxtapose contemporary pop elements like soaring synth hooks and pitched-up vocals.

And almost all of these have genre explorations have ended as disasters. Of course Minogue eventually saddles up to ride her be-glittered pony to the rodeo, late. And what she serves on Golden is more or less like a golden shower. It sounds good in theory, but the end result is a mess that you regret. Minogue should stick to her realm and leave country for the legends like Carrie Underwood, Dolly Parton, Loretta Lynn, and Reba McEntire. Full Review »

This album proves how diverse Kylie is because she still embraces her classic signature dance along with Nashville-country roots. Dancing and Shelby '68 are two of my favourites. Full Review »
