So Kylie Minogue is now 30 something years into her careered somehow is still relevant- meanwhile other popstars just 10 years into the career stress irrelevance (cough cough Katy Perry). This album proves how diverse Kylie is because she still embraces her classic signature dance along with Nashville-country roots. Dancing and Shelby '68 are two of my favourites.

Golden is sunny and there's a nice cadence to Kylie's voice. Happy 50th babe. Welcome back. I could live without Shelby 68 but swap that with Low Blow from the deluxe edition and this is a proper Kylie record; there's more of the singer in this set and less of the record company trying to figure out how to handle her than was evident on Kiss Me Once. To the newspaper reviewer who said this record sounds like Kylie "playing at country", stupid comment mate, she's not pretending she's a country singer, she's having fun playing with the country vibe. It's actually a very honest record and this set of tunes proves that she had fun in music city, not that she wants the world to suddenly think she's gone and changed her DNA. Finally, thanks for introducing us to Jack Savoretti - stellar duet! IMO best album since the underrated X. Expand

I have been a Kylie fan my whole life, there is not a time where I don't remember her music being played or seeing her on the television.
This is honestly one of the best things that she has ever released, and as another review has incorrectly stated, she actually does have a writing credit on every song!
Thank you so much Kylie for all the music, and for just being you!

Country appropriation has been en vogue for the better part of the 2010s. And almost all of these have genre explorations have ended as disasters. Of course Minogue eventually saddles up to ride her be-glittered pony to the rodeo, late. And what she serves on Golden is more or less like a golden shower. Golden is just a compilation of boring and dull love songs, just like every damn song Kylie has ever done. Golden has no concept, no personality, nothing. At least in her other albums there were a few tracks which I listened to, but Golden is completely useless in all of its 16 songs.

Let's get one thing clear, this isn't a Country record, to market it as such was a mega mistake in my opinion. A few banjo twangs added to pop tracks does not make this a country record in any way shape or form.
What this is, is a classy pop record, that sees Kylie move away from an electronic sound, to a more instrument based sound.

Overall, it's a great pop record. It's mature, personal and feels classy throughout, and her voice sounds beautiful on most tracks, particularly on the ballads/mid-tempo numbers. There's also enough electronic-twinged tracks present to keep the long-time fans happy, 'Raining Glitter' and the incredible (single worthy) 'Every Little Part of Me' - how this was a bonus track is beyond me.
The only real missteps here are the vocally weak, 'One Last Kiss' & 'Love', and the try-too-hard 'Low Blow'.
It's a fun era for Kylie, but let's hope she returns to where she belongs and dominates soon.... the dance floor.

Kylie returns with a subpar pop effort. Unfortunately there is nothing or exciting but rather a sound that is like a cross between Dragonette and any number of top 40 country tracks. Kylie really could have created a beautiful Dolly Parton inspired record, instead it sounds like the misguided attempt to again be a top pop star.

We have to give it to Kylie. 3 decades, almost 4 into her career. 14 albums, countless singles and many of millions of sales later and she still has a spark to offer to the world.

Despite having a few greyish songs on the album, as a whole, I would say the album is definitely golden. Is it her best album? No. Far from it, however, that’s not to say that the album isn’t good because that would just be a lie. The album is excellent, and in a world where music is based on trends and jokes, and not necessarily down to the music, Kylie is there to show that no matter what, music is always the one thing that matters and she still withholds that title of being a true music icon.

At this point, I almost feel reflective of her career and it’s actually quite emotional to watch. To see this woman who is loved by so many, and has made such a huge impact on music, still do what she loves, in the way that she wants to without having the pressure of the modern age, and to do it so well, is fantastic. She’s always doing the latest but in true Kylie style, and when you know someone’s creating music, and it has the same affect to what it did at the beginning of their career, that’s when you know that you have a real artist, and she has constantly done that, without not being true to herself, and being outside of the box also.

I would love to see Kylie stick around for another 3 decades, with another 14 albums because that’s what we deserve. A true icon.

For the first time (in a few album releases) this works as a full album instead of single material. No real hits ('Raining Glitter' besides) but the whole package is worth a listen. Kylie's vocals sound less 'helium' and more soft focus and finally more autobiographical. A record to listen to in full which is rare these days.
