  1. His big voice and big, good-vs-evil themes now need the gold lame beats of Grand Champ to deliver one last howling high.
  2. A forceful march through familiar territory.

As fine as anything he's done, but overall Grand Champ makes too many R&B concessions to be a fitting epitaph to his record-breaking career. [Nov 2003, p.129]
  4. Not quite the big comeback DMX needed at this point in his quietly sagging rap career, Grand Champ regardless has its share of highlights.
  5. Grand Champ would make a great single. As it stands, it's about a full hour more of DMX hollering gruffly than anybody really needs.
  6. Entertainment Weekly

The X-Man's grating lyrical redundancy throughout this disc reeks of laziness, and his self-derivative hooks and beats hints at complacency and stunted growth. [3 Oct 2003, p.73]
  7. It's a selfish record, a me-first record, a record that exists purely to make DMX feel like a tough guy.

I pitty these so called reviewers, because they know nothing about rap and yet they have the nerve to rate great cds like DMX's Grand I pitty these so called reviewers, because they know nothing about rap and yet they have the nerve to rate great cds like DMX's Grand Champ and give them crap ratings. Do not pay attention to professional reviewers. All they do is look at the cover and back of a cd, listen to a couple of tracks then post their reviews. It really makes me sick that because of their stupid, uneducated reviews, many people are missing out on great music. On a positve note, DMX debuted number one on billboard's top 100. C'mon, as if you didn't see it coming. Take that you stupid critics. Collapse
