Khaled sticks to what he knows best throughout this LP and that’s creating hits with ease. The 22 songs on Grateful aren’t anything out of the ordinary for Khaled or any of his featured guests but they remain hits nonetheless.

The first half of the album, Khaled showed precise execution, stacking banger after banger. Had he sliced the album down to 15 or 16 tracks, he could have secured a very special project.

With so much talent and so much content, it’s frustrating that he couldn’t deliver a higher-quality product.

Sadly, nearly every song is made worse by Khaled’s inane shout outs of “another one” or “we the best music”, making you yearn for a Khaled-free version.

Many of the songs on the second half slide into each other in a forgettable jumble, but Grateful’s best songs are here, too.

It can be taken as a full listen, and it rolls along easily enough, but most likely listeners will just queue the songs they like and ignore the rest of the filler.

The diversity he curates quickly turns messy, though, as a surplus of talent doesn't guarantee musical versatility.

The album starts off pretty great, with "Shining" and "Nobody" being pretty great R&B numbers and although "To the Max" and "It's Secured" might sound a bit dated, they have very catchy and have a unique vibe to them, where else are you going to hear Nas and Travis Scott on the same song? My favourite song might be "On Everything", Travis Scott's autotuned voice might be a bit annoying but the Julie Andrews sample goes well.

Unfortunately, the second part of the album is pretty mediocre, with most of it consisting of slow and dull trap numbers that are akin to a lame SoundCloud artist. "Major Bag Alert" drags on for too long, "Whatever" sounds like a novelty song that was made for the laughs, "That Range Rover Came With Steps" and "I Can't Even Lie" and are a bore to listen to and "Iced Out My Arms" is probably the most generic song Khaled has ever made, with an instrumental that sounds like to took 2 minutes to produce. "Billy Ocean" and "Good Man" save it from being completely bad though.

Regardless, this is overall a pretty well made album, and I do appreciate Khaled letting his son, who was a baby at the time, being the executive producer.

Most of the singles leading into this thing signaled a very "soundtrack of the summer" type sound, especially with "I'm the One"and "Wild Thoughts". Sadly, any expectations of this being this year's "soundtrack of the summer" are quickly destroyed when listening through it. Songs like "On Everything" and "Nobody" continue the singles's energy, but the album quickly dissolves into filler. "It's Secured" wastes a feature from Nas, "Iced Out My Arms" is a boring banger that also wastes two very good producers, while "I Love You So Much" is the most lyrically bankrupt tracks DJ Khaled's ever presented. This album is sadly an unfocused, amateurish mess that could have been cut down a disc, a disappointment compared to last year's "Major Key".
Favourites: "Wild Thoughts", "I'm the One", "On Everything", "Nobody", "I Can't Even Lie"
Least Favourites: "It's Secured", "I Love You So Much", "Pull a Caper", "Iced Out My Arms"
