It is a staggering portrait of a man willing to divulge his insecurities, his passions, his failures, and hold them up for the entire world to examine and devour. Three albums in, and his remarkable voice still dazzles as it did on his masterful debut, but now you actually might find yourself dancing to everything around it.

One of his greatest talents is his ability to craft an album that takes the listener places. Health is no exception; like all greats it grows on you the more you listen.

The brooding, hymn-like closer "Care" and the resplendent coming out anthem "He Came From the Sun" hew closer to the sonic intimacy that was generated on 2015's Architect, but even they feel larger than life, signaling not so much a stylistic shift for Duncan, but a maturation of his ability to build worlds out of sound, and in his overall confidence as well.

Health is easily Duncan's most three-dimensional release yet. It's fun, yet sincere, with top-notch compositions and arrangements that make it one of the best indie pop releases of 2019.

What it lacks in vocal grit it makes up for in abundant hooks. [May 2019, p.96]

Everything is more direct: the vocals are bolder and higher in the mix, the instrumentation sharper, the lyrics more personal.

The lush arrangements highlight his sophistication as a songwriter--‘Impossible’ comes on like ABBA gone synthwave--if sometimes verging towards the saccharine with repeated exposure. Yet this latest collection finds C Duncan in rude health.
