An exceptional pivot from noise collage work to lighter experimentation with traditional rock textures from an artist whose previous genre fusion has carved an elegant path to their current mastery of the form.

Favourite tracks: All of them, seriously
Least favourite: None but the bass on Identity Trade was so wonky it took some adjustment

A very well composed album that does take influence from a lot of artists from other genres, but in turn it makes it more accessible than his previous body of work “Safe in the Hands of Love”. I enjoyed the album front to back multiple times and many of the songs stick to me very well.

Just an incredible album. I was a big fan of Bowie's last full length and this one did not disappoint, better in every way. He has solidified himself as a true heavy hitter on Warp's lineup. When this decade is over, you'll see this one on the lists, no doubt about it.

“Heaven To A Tortured Mind” é o quarto álbum de estúdio do cantor-compositor e produtor, norte americano, Yves Tumor.

As participações e vocais adicionais ajudaram Yves a complementar a estrutura do trabalho.

Angular and jarring in sound, Heaven To A Tortured Mind is bursting with moments that rightly challenge the listener, quickly rewarding them every time.
Displaying true creativity and dodging any predictable musical structures, Yves Tumor has shared the perfect album to escape everything bad happening in 2020 - even if for only half an hour.

It is by far one of the best albums of 2020. A true masterpiece, thanks Yves Tumor for this excellent record!

Full credit for creating a pop based album that stands out as so different in a time when so much sounds the derivative. A crisp epic for the ages. 'Heaven To A Tortured Mind' is an almost perfect masterpiece that highlights the excellence of Sean Bowie. This record is packed with rock anthems that make the golden days of rock listen in awe. In many ways, you're under the influence of Bowie. With every turn you take, their wall of sounds consumes you.
Beginning with 'Gospel For A New Century', Sean sets the scene with this new age of music. Take it up a notch and you get 'Medicine Burn'. In fact, take it up a notch whilst on too many tabs and you'll approach the soundscape of 'Medicine Burn'. Calming down for a while, 'Romanticist' is exactly what it sounds like. Bowie takes on the image of a sex icon. The synths float you across the scene and into the climax. Fireworks lead into the high of 'Dream Palette', another wall of sound that is alternated to relate back to 'Romanticist'. The hard-to-not-sing-to 'Super Stars' is the perfect track to make you feel like you're on top of the world. We are all super stars and Bowie can prove it. From here, Sean dips down again to a more chilled state. The dreamy 'Folie Imposee' is not perfect, however, its production is great for a deep listen. 'Strawberry Privilege' is a perfrct song to chill to. The soft bass guitar plucks its way around Sean's airy vocals till the tracks close. The last two tracks on 'HTATM' are what bring its rating down from a 10/10. 'Asteroid Blues' is not bad, but comparing it to the standard set by the albums previous 10 tracks, its hard to believe that this track made it onto the final release. Things seem to get a bit better on 'A Greater Love', however, it is no stand-out track. It's soothing, warped chords and dreamy vocals feel like the come-down of an amazing trip.
'HTATM' has allowed Yves Tumor to set their place in my books as one of the greatest projects/artists of my time. While 'Safe In The Hands of Love' was one of the best industrial records ever, Bowie has now taken the spot for 'best rock anthem record' with their latest record. What can't they accomplish?

Wow.

Wow. I'm stunned with this gem. This is the first album that I hear from Yves Tumor and I can't believe that I'm just knowing about his existence. This is a must for music lovers or simply people who want some genuine greatness in their playlist. Yves Tumor, along with Justin Raisen, has created a musical peace hard to believe. There's so much energy, diversity, musically smart, creativity, authenticity, originality, intensity, sensibility, and beauty in the vocal and instrumental screams that it's hard not to want to scream along with euphoria and furor in each song. This IndieRock is drowning in pleasures with Soul, Noice, Synth-Rock, Loops, Psychedelic, and Ambient in a sound game that is precious, spatial, and emotional. I can't stop enjoying and thanking for this album and the existence of this magnificent artist.

The whole album it's an explicit and direct narrative about feelings. Verses are emotional and self-sacrificing, bridges are expressively bombing. My favourites are Romanticist + Dream Palette. I think I'll be returning to the album long after.

Brilliant album. Highly eclectic and the songs just grow and grow on each listen from start to finish. He seems to combine my favourite elements of the Mars Volta, Angelo and Prince with heaps of other influences. Standouts Dream Palette, Kerosene and a Greater Love

While there are moments that feel less remarkable (the insignificant Hasdallen Lights or the groovy but repetitive Asteroid Blues), Heavens to a Tortured Mind succeeds when it’s mostly focused on creating a sensual yet serious mood throughout.
