‘Hotel Surrender’ must surely be one of the most cathartic records of the year. From the laid-back cool of opener ‘Oh Me Oh My’, it seems the Faker brand of chill beats is back. The self-production adds to the organic nature of the record, and is often quite bold, with strings and saxophones aplenty.

Hotel Surrender is a testament to Murphy's skills as an artist and his attitude as a person.

    Stretches further into his trademark laid-back R&B. [Jul/Aug 2021, p.133]

All ten songs run at the same midtempo pace, with mildly funky backing and steady trap rhythms. If there is a joy to be had, it’s in the unflappable nature of the songs resulting from Murphy’s tasteful, unencumbered production.

It might be damning with faint praise, but Hotel Surrender would suggest that Murphy is at his best in shallow artistic waters, and ventures further out at his peril.

The marginally more upbeat and engaging Feel Good aside, it’s all very tasteful but ultimately a little unexciting. As returns go, it’s an underwhelming one.

As a blind fan until now, I can say that it's the record that i have liked least of him.
Actually i could not give many reasons, the fault could be mine. I have not found any song that made me feel a lot. Despite all of this, i do not know how to play guitar, how to play drums or even have any sense of rhythm. I am not he best judge, go and listen this album and do not take me into account.

I thank him for making nice music and i hope i'll like better his next record.
