    An unbelievably brilliant return by a true original. To call him just neo-psych would be to deprave him of otherworldly talents. Have a listen if you are a fan of craft and invention.

    This is a diverse album. I'm rating it highly not only because of that but also despite it being a bit of a throwback, it's a strong and focused effort from an artist whom I feel might have a bit more behind the curtain than he's letting on.

Open the rear doors of your airbrushed Dodge van and roll around in the plush sofas to the Californian airwaves until your surfer haircut is messy enough to match the size of your pupils. ”How to die in the North” is a album of beautiful Beach Boyesque snapshots thru a vaseline blurred lens.

    Late to this guy but as I review 10 Manc artists this week I've discovered a true gem. Elusive, sharp melodies and mad arrangements from one of the past decades most elusive personalities.

    Fun songwriting and instrumentation in a sort of 60's pop style (for the most part). Vocalist sounds like Brian Wilson sometimes. My biggest issue with How to Die in the North is the track disparity. Some tracks are great, such as the slow, piano ballad Good Morning Headache, or the wistful, jazzy Atom Bomb. However, there are some tracks that fall flat. I wasn't a fan of the R&BFun songwriting and instrumentation in a sort of 60's pop style (for the most part). Vocalist sounds like Brian Wilson sometimes. My biggest issue with How to Die in the North is the track disparity. Some tracks are great, such as the slow, piano ballad Good Morning Headache, or the wistful, jazzy Atom Bomb. However, there are some tracks that fall flat. I wasn't a fan of the R&B influenced Just Because I Love You or the largely forgettable surf tune Thieves in Antigua. The messy array of styles present on the album makes it a bit unorganized and unfocused. BC Camplight has the songwriting, instrumental, and vocal chops to make a great album, but he needs a focused vision of himself to succeed.… Expand
