Not only a remarkable return, but also a songwriting master-class that will hopefully see BC Camplight embark upon a second act worthy of his talents.

Not one second of How To Die in the North feels over-worked or incongruous.

Melodic and eccentric, this is a multi-layered beauty. [Feb 2015, p.106]

How to Die in the North is an undeniably tasty dish, served hot or cold.

This is an occasionally beautiful, often strange album that deserves a wider audience than Christinzio’s previous releases.

An exhilarating step beyond [the 2005 and 2007] albums' late-'60s foundations. [Feb 2015, p.93]

I'm rating it highly not only because of that but also despite it being a bit of a throwback, it's a strong and focused effort from an artist whom I feel might have a bit more behind the curtain than he's letting on. Fun songwriting and instrumentation in a sort of 60's pop style (for the most part). Vocalist sounds like Brian Wilson sometimes. My biggestFun songwriting and instrumentation in a sort of 60's pop style (for the most part). Vocalist sounds like Brian Wilson sometimes. My biggest issue with How to Die in the North is the track disparity. Some tracks are great, such as the slow, piano ballad Good Morning Headache, or the wistful, jazzy Atom Bomb. However, there are some tracks that fall flat. I wasn't a fan of the R&B influenced Just Because I Love You or the largely forgettable surf tune Thieves in Antigua. The messy array of styles present on the album makes it a bit unorganized and unfocused. BC Camplight has the songwriting, instrumental, and vocal chops to make a great album, but he needs a focused vision of himself to succeed. Expand
