Feb 27, 2014Damaged Bug is a celebration of the strange and often unstable world of analog electronics, and while there's considerably less "crash and bang" to the project than Dwyer's work with Coachwhips and Thee Oh Sees, it has a scuzziness that fans of the prolific noisemaker's other work will appreciate.
Feb 27, 2014After the jarring synthetic combo of “Rope Burn” and “Eggs At Night,” Hubba Bubba hits its stride with tracks like “Sic Bay Surprise” and “Photograph,” which contain flashes of Dwyer’s high-pitched breathy signature vocals and a few bars of guitar shredding in between the machine blips.
Mar 4, 2014There are moments, like “Catastrophobia” or the overly hazy “Hot Swells”, that feel overly indulgent, expanding on textures already fully formed in other songs. Overall, though, Hubba Bubba is a solid record, reminiscent in ways of early Oh Sees records. It’s scrappy, scuffed, and full of promise.
