There's no denying the power of a set stuffed with riffs like “Honky Tonk Women”, “Brown Sugar” and “Jumpin' Jack Flash”, played with that inimitable loose/tight dialectic that characterises the Stones at their best.

Some of the most fulfilling moments here are the bloated passages, while many of the other successful changes are the very minor tweaks.

While a couple of songs--most notably ‘Satisfaction’, a three-note guitar riff spun out for eight-and-a-half minutes--suffer from an acute case of stadium bloat, it’s all done in such a jubilant fashion that it hardly matters.

This is essentially a greatest hits that offers no real surprise in either songs or arrangements (the exception being "It's Only Rock N Roll," which now sounds more Chuck Berry than ever), but that doesn't mean Hyde Park Live isn't satisfying.

The 19-song set is well-paced and there’s less of the bloat—mostly overlong guitar soloing—that made for tedious moments on previous tours. But with the Stones’ expansive catalog, why always the same selections?
