Then, when the third song tones it down, but keeps you riveted, you know you might be on to something special. Finally, when every song sounds somehow incredibly better than the one before it, the magic tingle of rock bliss blesses your body & brain, and you know this is it—the reason why you listen to music. This is your drug of choice, and you’ve just hit the motherlode! “Hypnotized” is the debut release out of Brooklyn from two of the original members of The Men. Here’s what you get: Raw, vital, psychedelic beat-driven garage punk with a throbbing Krautrock chug-a-lug energy. Hypnotic groove-power, trippy-slow atmospheric neo-folk psych. Some twangy grindhouse blues with Farfisa organ and sweet reverbed lead work. Epic, mesmerizing, low-soaring drone ballads. Country-roots folk/blues with a traditional psychedelic purity. And pounding motorik rhythms that drive some exceptional eyes-glazed rock ‘n’ roll freak-out guitars. The album recalls bands like the Black Keys, Secret Machines, Feedtime, Low Frequency In Stereo, Parquet Courts, Death From Above 1979, Psychic Ills, Moon Duo, Pink Mountaintops & Cheap Trick. A lot of times with music that’s both really good and really diverse, it’s hard to put a label on it, which—ironically, is one of the reasons it is really good! “Hypnotized” is a potent & outstanding moment of contemporary rock ‘n’ roll that will shake and shimmy all that your are in a black-light haze of genuine excitement.
