Baxter's third cracking album in a row. [Jul 2023, p.88]
  2. 80
Ironically for an album so deeply immersed in the past and the all-enveloping shadow of a famous parent, the album provides that Dury’s talents require no piggybacking on anyone else’s fame: this is the real deal.

A welcome return from Baxter Dury, as he turns his gaze to the past to offer up a typically wry dissection of his upbringing and his formative years. [Aug 2023, p.50]

On the darkly groovy Crowded Rooms Hart is joined by singer-songwriters Eska and JGrrey to bolster Dury's spoken narrative as he grapples with successfully finding his place in the here and now. [Jul 2023, p.87]

‘I Thought I Was Better Than You’ proves a valuable insight into who Baxter Dury is.

Baxter Dury deserves to be considered fully free of his father's shadow. Maybe after releasing this subtly brilliant and pleasingly scathing album, he'll finally believe it too.

He has a cute way to not sing in his songs, and his oratory is very appealing. Yet, he is joined with very soft voices in this new album that is hard to not fall for him... for his music, of course haha.
I don't know, this is the first time I feel this, and it is a feeling that has been following me since "The Night Chancers" (2020)... my perfect boyfriend sounds like Baxter Dury's music: mature, sincere, danceable, yet very sensible. He is not perfect, of course, but it's good(-natured) enough to make me feel secure.
(jeees maybe i just want a suggar daddy)
