I’m All Ears is about abandoning fear and leaping boldly towards desire. It is remarkable.

If they’ve perfected the modern pop template associated with acts like SOPHIE (on production duties here) - and they have - it’s somehow not the most impressive element of the record. The second half of the album includes a pair of breathtaking epics, ‘Cool & Collected’ and ‘Donnie Darko’, that showcase a songwriting maturity well beyond their 18 and 19 years.

I’m All Ears renders flattened communication as poignant, striking not because of the novelty of being made by teenagers but because it speaks with such commanding precision to the experience of a teenager in 2018.

Through it all, Let’s Eat Grandma encapsulate the agony and ecstasy of youth--and even more besides--in constantly dynamic ways that demand your attention. You’ll be all ears.

Their stylistic shifts never feel contrived, especially when the results are as stunning as "Cool & Collected."

It’s a thrill to listen to their experiments, their tinkering with sounds and ideas.

Those two ["Cool & Collected" and "Donnie Darko"] towers loom over an otherwise sterile pop album, which lacks the hidden barbs and hazy ambiguity that drew Let's Eat Grandma's cult following.

The progressive tracks surprised me greatly especially with Donnie Darko, I never felt breathless for an album-ender than this one.

Initially, I thought this would have the potential to be my third 10/10 album, but it turns out to be a bit disappointing (I do not mean this in a bad way, but I just expect more from LEG). Although thoughtful and delivered, and all tracks are necessary and substantive, more detail can be added to some of them. Strong 8. Expand

This album felt so raw, earnest.hopeful and depressed. It dancing through the pain with people who understand it. These are talented teens exploring love so expertly it should bore them by now. The ominous opener /cleanser introduces us to the theme and mood projected through the album without wearing it's welcome. This is followed by the high octane SOPHIE produced "real" opener 'hot pink'. It sets a high standard for the rest of the album which they shockingly surpass with the brilliant existential closer,'donnie darko'. The closer feels so intimate and personal like lorde's melodrama packaged into a single song (though the entire album seems reminiscent to it) the production on this is very avant garde and considered. Every decision made is thought through from the glokenspiels or the syths warbling to their words even the glittery flourishes on the ballads 'cool&collected' and 'ava'. This is an impressive release that hits the emotional milestones i placed for it and sequencing that forms a story and composes an emotiona described only by the coulor purple. The singles were mostly amazing tracks, but the album ultimatelyThe only real thing I felt from listening to this album was disappointment. The singles were mostly amazing tracks, but the album ultimately falls short in its second half and suffers from a considerable amount of filler.

The tracks Cool & Collected and Donnie Darko are unreasonably long for how lackluster they are. While excellent lyricism abounds, the instrumentals of these tracks are awkward and don't fit the theme. Songs like It's Not Just Me and I Will Be Waiting capture the feelings of longing and take the listener on an emotional journey that half of the album just can't seem to reproduce.

The album's synthwave opener, Whitewater, clears the way for Hot Pink, an angsty and powerful embrace of self-expression. Ava, while not too bad of a single, doesn't really fit in with the rest of the album at all--putting it all together should make you realize that this kind of ballad just takes away from the experience. The two instrumental breaks bring the pace to a jarring and confusing halt, and are completely unnecessary. As individual songs, most--if not all--of the tracks on I'm All Ears are solid, but combined exhibit little more than a case of mistaken identity.

The second half of this album is possibly one of the finest examples of a good idea executed poorly. It's something special, but it doesn't really blow other art-pop acts out of the park. It's clear that Let's Eat Grandma have the potential to do so, with more refinement and organization.

Best Tracks: It's Not Just Me, Falling Into Me, Hot Pink
    Worst Track: Cool & Collected
