The result is magnificent: “dance” music that bursts out of the grid with retro textures, prelapsarian oscillations, birdsong and bells.

Imagine This is a High Dimensional Space of All Possibilities is one of those rare records that is very long but doesn’t seem to have an idle moment. The album becomes deeper and more rewarding with each consecutive track.

Holden has created a life-affirming hour in the musical heavens, just as the title promises.

This is hypnotic stuff. ... A record that feels genuinely transportive. [May 2023, p.30]

Imagine This Is a High Dimensional Space of All Possibilities is perhaps the furthest-out release in a discography full of inventive, inspired music, and it's some of Holden's most exciting and impressive work.

The way these surprises are smuggled in via skilful sonic illusions attests to Holden’s wide listening habits, and his judgement for bringing different sounds together like an old school studio producer. [Apr 2023, p.54]

Each track is inevitably a wild combination of memories, ideas, and influences – midi-fied sacred harp singers clash with squiggly synthesis, fiddle collides with the most absurd funk bass. Meanwhile, the spectre of prog is everywhere and the club is never far away. Amazingly, it all works.

It's meant to be experienced in one fell swoop. Once the record works its magic on you, it'll be hard to pull out a single moment.

The full enjoyment of Imagine This Is a High Dimensional Space of All Possibilities requires some imagination of your own, a sort of listening past the vaporous surface of the music. Like teenage Holden at the radio, you may sense a magical world there, just beyond what you can hear.

The album does a good job of rekindling the connection with our younger, hopeful selves.

It's cool to be kind in the hope. I almost said "made with love" but you can never go back.

I do would recommend giving it a try, just to get to know the right way of exploring and creating a sense of space, but there is still a sense of time, intensity and sensibility that must be found. This review contains spoilers, click full review link to view. This album is actually realllyyy reallly bad. It’s just so boring. Common land: boring. (Mind you most popular) the album opens with: you are in the clearing which is sooo bad. And ends with the song: you can never go back. Which is not only bad but also such a corny title to end the album with. Def a must NOT listen Full Review »
