The Killers have made another dazzling statement of ultra-modern pomp, and one arguably even more in step with new generations of alt-rock. It’s a musical DeLorean: rooted in mainstream Americana but speeding into adventurous horizons.

The songs themselves are vintage Killers, often beginning quietly but driving inexorably to those yearning, multi-layered choruses that Flowers does so well, perfect for singing emotively with an impassioned fist over the chest. The album’s 10 songs breeze by at a steady and efficient clip, never outstaying their welcome.

Imploding the Mirage feels like more than just one of their best albums, but a triumphant and invigorated rut-reversal that shines with a hard-won confidence.

Escapism running through its veins, right down to the gentle “woah-oh’s” or cascading drums, Imploding The Mirage works because it doesn’t try hard but still pulls all of those components we’ve come to know and love together.

The band sounds invigorated, and the listening experience benefits hugely from that sense of direction and self-awareness.

The Killers’ sixth studio album embodies the band’s liberated spirit and boundless appetite for the grandiose, all while beginning to make up for over a decade of below average material. Imploding the Mirage will finally have you smiling about The Killers again – and yes, this time, like you mean it.

It may be interesting to hear what Flowers would do if he could resist the urge to turn the dial up to 11 every time, but you really can’t fault his ambition when he delivers another album that is all killer, no filler.

This is the most professional, mature, clean-sounding hit of saccharine pop the band have ever delivered, and it’s certainly their best album since Day & Age.

By shedding any cool pretence and steering directly into the skid of adult alternative cheese, the Killers have followed a lifetime of perfect songs and made their first truly great album.

It’s an album that feels rich and invigorating, and proves they’re still one of our most treasured bands for a reason.

Despite the weak ending, Imploding the Mirage is a powerful album from a hungrier and more passionate Killers that have once again embraced bombast with fearlessness, aspiration, and confidence. You can hear the band prevailing over struggles and finding the joy in making music and being alive.

Sheer, unabashed stadium sonics delivered with a heart of gold, ‘Imploding The Mirage’ finds The Killers providing one of the biggest – in both a sonic and emotional sense – albums of their career. It’s a propulsive achievement, pushing their songwriting to the limit in a thrilling, Devil-may-care manner.

The Killers still has a way with a story song, but even those could be seen as harking back to the good old days.

There’s a maturity in The Killers’ music that started to emerge on Wonderful Wonderful and really takes root here.

Imploding the Mirage has more bangers than a Killers album should 16 years after their debut and without copping to “maturity.” This band remains as absurd—marvelously so—as ever.

The 80s-loving Vegas crew delivers its strongest set of songs in years. [Sep 2020, p.68]

It’s not quite a caricature of what an average rock fan considers The Killers to be, but it’s close. Still, Mirage is markedly superior to its uneven predecessor, 2017’s Wonderful, Wonderful, largely due to the presence of several guest artists.

Overall this is a stronger album than "Wonderful Wonderful"

Each song has its own personality, its highs and lows but always staying at a point where they are key pieces of an album that you can tell it was made with passion.

My Own souls warning is probably one of the best songs on the album, the synthesizers in the chorus, the bass at the beginning and the guitar at the end make an anthem in his discography.

Blowback It has a rhythm reminiscent of the old west, slide guitar, piano, synthesizers. Another strong point.

Dying Breed An industrial start with a drum machine mixed with real drums and synthesizers.
In the middle it explodes to give a direct song to the top of its career.

Caution the first single, Ronnie driving with his drums, accompanied by acoustic guitars, synthesizers and bass.
The solo at the end is a spectacular closing.

    Lightning Fields feat k.d.lang
Lang's chorus and section take this song to another level.

Fire in Bone, Mix Bass Funk whit Bowie and Talking heads.

    Running Towards a Place
Driving with bass, drums, synthesizers and the voice of Brandon Flowers

    My God feat Weyes Blood
Weyes Blood and Brandon Flowers come together to give one of the best songs on the album and the Killers in general.

    When the dreams run dry
Synthesizers are the stars in this well-implemented pop rock song

    Imploding the Mirage
    A rhythm no one expected.
Instead of closing with a ballad this time The Killers close with a fun song that leaves a good taste in the mouth.

Full of energy and memorious melodies it gives the very best of The Killers. Especially in these pandemic days. Full Review »
