Clocking in at sixty-two-minutes, Intruder finds Gary Numan undeterred in continuing to push at the buttons of a world increasingly devoted to its own demise.

This ominous set of industrial ire and theatrical brooding sees him in his element, prioritising atmosphere over tunes, both coldly alien and vulnerably human. [Jul 2021, p.82]

With ‘Intruder’, he’s chiming with the times – and sounding thrillingly relevant in the process.

What we get more of are melodies that stick. [Jul 2021, p.87]

There’s a few too many repeated melodies, and too few differing musical moods. Still, this is a reliably impressive package from a man who knows his business, and crucially still has something to say. It’s Prime Numan in his prime.

Numan’s consistency is also his biggest downfall. There’s simply no reason to listen to Intruder if you’ve heard any of the albums he’s released in the past decade, because it’s virtually identical to his previous works.

The songs are often guilty of bloated bombast, but Numan retains an impressive command of cinematic melodrama and richly layered sonic detail. [Jul 2021, p.33]

Epic album. Powerful, progressive and hugely accomplished album from Numan, who arguably gets better with every new release

What would she think? Anger? Betrayal? If the world had a voice then Gary Numan is the right person to voice it. Excellent album. Well done Gary! Expand

"Intruder" puts the spotlight on humanity as we stand before the living entity we call Earth. Numan gives our planet a voice to express her dark feelings of anger, sorrow, and disgust with humanity. Numan diffuses some of that darkness with the tattered remnants of what was once called hope. Lyrically and musically the album is near flawless. Both are rich, layered, vibrant and, let's face it, dark and deliciously pure Numan. Numan has cemented his dominance atop the electronic music genre and rightfully so. Treat yourself and listen to "Intruder" with your headphones on. It's an amazing album that doesn't disappoint. Rather, it proves Numan's ability to continue to capture our attention while, at the same time, raising our souls and consciences to a higher level of being. Expand
