Whether its hiding tragedy behind comedy for his own purpose, or simply making it easier for us to digest what Purdy preaches when he gets to the truth, either way, ISTHISFORREAL? is a special balance.

    Aug 16, 2022
TKO raps over vignettes with sonic left turns. His style sneaks in social comment. [Oct 2022, p.92]
  3. Jul 28, 2022
Even the more lighthearted moments are rich with subtext. Like a De La Soul project, ISTHISFORREAL? gestures at a running talk-show concept without really committing to the bit. Instead, KTO deploys a breadth of styles to match the record’s expansive themes.
  4. Jul 28, 2022
The album taps out at 25 minutes, but it's urgent enough that it clearly makes its point within that time frame.
  5. Jul 28, 2022
It’s just unfortunate that ‘ISTHISFORREAL?’ is less of a philosophical treatise and more a frustrated misrepresentation of Purdy’s abilities.
  6. The Wire
    Aug 17, 2022
He raps in a stereotypically ‘white’ voice shorn of regional inflections, and the contrast between his deadpan vocals and the beats ranges from startlingly imaginative (the hammering blapper “Fundrazors”) to anodyne (“Indifferent”). [Sep 2022, p.57]
