With so many loose threads, JACKBOYS isn't the compilation album one would hope for — instead, it seems rushed and put together to make a year-end release.

It’s Toliver who sounds like he’s rallying, his voice less like a piece of software and more an instrument of feeling. His singsong verse is one of the few moments on JACKBOYS that isn’t just product.

Very little is going on lyrically above but Smoke’s energy is priceless. That same energy is only marginally filtered through these swift-moving tracks. The entire album is more of an elongated intro to the Cactus Jack brand.

The greatest aspect of the EP is the aesthetic it gives off: a dark, mysterious, and intriguing vibe that also in a way prepares the listener for either the future or the continuation of the ideas behind JACKBOYS. Not the best Travis Scott project, but definitely an outstanding introductory project for the label’s, and its artists’ respective futures. 8/10 = B Full Review »
