An unstoppable, intense and astonishing assault on the senses that gives a respectable nod to the past while it blazes a trail to the future. [#9]
  2. Whether it is described as danceable rock, rock-infused dance or sinister Britpop, Kasabian has made an excellent debut album.
  3. If imitation is the biggest form of flattery, everyone involved in the Manchester scene circa 1988 will be smiling ear to ear when they hear Kasabian.

    [A] big, bold, rock-for-the-dance-floor romp. [Jun 2005, p.84]

Such are the highs, the weaker material suffers by comparison. [Sep 2004, p.111]
  6. Much has been made of Kasabian's attempts to blend electronic sounds within those of a more conventional rock outfit... Yet for all that, I'm not fully convinced that the attempts here are always successful. At times the band doesn't seem to have fully integrated it into their sound; the two elements often come off as separate entities.
  7. Sure this album may well sound awesome if you’ve just snorted a metre of charlie or recently breakfasted from a menu of ‘shrooms and LSD, but for sober ears it’s enough to drive anyone to drugs.

Excellent album, heard LSF on a free CD with a magazine and bought the album on the strength of that one song. Best decision I ever made. Kasabian are one of those bands I feel deserve a lot of credit for experminenting and being ambitious with their psychadelic rock sound. TheKasabian are one of those bands I feel deserve a lot of credit for experminenting and being ambitious with their psychadelic rock sound. The best thing about them is if you stripped away the trickery and peeled away the layers, they do write really really good songs. Strangely enough, Kasabian's debut album was the last one that I listened to. I bought Empire and liked it but only when I got Velocoraptor and was really impressed that I went back through their albums again. Their debut is an excellent record, not perfect but they have a unique sound and the record shows plenty of ambition. Of course Clubfoot, still their most recognisable tune, is the standout track, but there is so much to like throughout this album. Expand
