UncutMar 13, 2020A dazzling return. [Apr 2020, p.30]
-
Apr 28, 2020It takes courage to make an album like La Vita Nuova, and it takes a rare talent to make it work, and this leaves no doubt Maria McKee has plenty of both.
-
Mar 13, 2020La Vita Nouva is a deeply personal and cathartic album and is certainly one that requires more than one listen. Each time will lift you up into a higher state of consciousness. A dramatic and unbridled return to a new beginning.

MojoMar 13, 2020A singer-songwriter back at the peak of her powers. [Apr 2020, p.94]
-
Mar 16, 2020Her lyrics as well as her performance may strike some listeners as overly literary, but there is method in these mannerisms. That unwieldiness becomes one of the album’s most appealing traits.
-
Apr 2, 2020La Vita Nuova pulls together some pretty disparate genres of music and combines them in a very pleasing way. Chamber strings augment folk melodies. Torch songs are re-imagined as child ballads. Fortunately, McKee's voice manages to knit all these strands together, and the record stops well short of being a hot, sprawling mess.
-
Mar 13, 2020It’s a tough sell for anyone not already on board with McKee, especially since the songwriting is rarely persuasive enough to take the edge off the intensity.
