Narratively cohesive and relatable, it is in celebration of where he comes from that ultimately makes Last Man Dancing the essential, repeatable work that it is.
  2. Unlike Shears’ 2018 heart-on-sleeve solo debut, it’s pure escapism and his most effortless-sounding set since bursting out of the traps nearly 20 years ago.

There might not be an album big enough to contain all the facets of Shears' talent, but Last Man Dancing's abundance of style and imagination should keep fans guessing -- and of course, dancing.

Last Man Dancing is a party to escape to when life gets a little bit too much, and it delivers on its mission statement with abundance.

Like one imagines a night out curated by the Scissor Sister himself, cues shift from pure pop disco to ‘80s maximalism (the almost-instrumental ‘8 Ball’ makes like an extended 12” remix).

His first album was something decent to hear at first, but it surprisingly grew to become something I could barely stand. So I decided to give it one more change with more critic hears, but boy... this was a bold move.
Not just to make a dance statement on the first half of the album, but just to grow it all to one single eternal dance trip. It is awesome, very well produced, and I can't complain at all.
Power and Nu Pop is making a serious proposal this year, with some incredible proposals like Jessie Ware, Ellie Goulding, Mega Bog with her 90s attempt, and in a lower or maybe not that successful attempts of U.S Girls, SG Lewis and Alison Goldfrapp in between several others... It is not easy to create a danceable record that actually breaks the walls of time, but the attempts are very much appreciated and the ones that achieve to do it, they are simply a gift and a miracle. I'm happy to say that this new album of Jake Shears is one of those that will stick in the feet and hearts of those energetic people with so much to sweat out.
