Since the film is set in Scotland, and since the former Talking Head himself was born there, he decided to enlist members of Glasgow-based groups such as Mogwai, Belle & Sebastian and The Reindeer Section to assist with this music (only a small portion of which actually is heard in the film). 1. His vision appears to be his own, and just happens to coincide with both the director's and the author's visions also, resulting in one of the best soundtracks -- and albums -- I've heard in a long time.

The music is so completely absorbing and evocative... it's possible to virtually recreate the film in your head. [#7, p.93]
  3. Entertainment Weekly

Byrne's music is wonderfuly brooding without losing the odd bounce in its step. [Listen 2 This supplement, Oct 2003, p.14]
  4. Temptation is strong enough to stand with any of Byrne's other solo work, that rare film score that works beautifully as an entirely separate record.
  5. Planet

It is a restrained atmospheric affair indeed. [#5, p.105]
  6. Mojo

This is music you can lose yourself in. [Oct 2003, p.110]
  7. Byrne fans will probably already own this, and probably should, if for no other reason than the final two tracks. Casual fans who haven’t seen the movie will probably be put off by 13 mostly homogeneous tracks of soundtrack fare. Without an emotional attachment to either Byrne or the movie, that’s simply too much for even a solid album like this to overcome.

Good soundtrack. Not hugely inspiring but sounds great. A nice mix of Badalamenti / Lynch atmospheric drone and gentle, beautiful post-rock Good soundtrack. Not hugely inspiring but sounds great.
