Lil Boat 2 is a simply a weird musical vacation that sets sail into the strange mind of the impactful red-haired youngster.

Clocking in at 47 minutes (despite its 17-track length), Lil Boat 2 feels like a vast improvement from ‘Teenage Emotions’ simply as it doesn’t feel like an ordeal to listen to. What that does do, however, is narrow down your focus, which tends to land on Yachty’s predisposition for telling us just how rich he is now.

Yachty has definitely improved as a technician, making his raps more mobile and structurally sound, but most times the rhymes pass by as if on a conveyor belt. They seemingly have the same function, and the same constructions, and once they happen they’re forgotten almost instantly.

He aspires to be more than the face of so-called "mumble rap." Yet Lil Boat 2's best moments are when he reverts to the familiar.

The album is so riven by corporate overtures that it bears no resemblance to its prequel.

You’re struck by the sense that Lil Yachty has let the criticism get to him so much that he’s forgotten where his actual strengths lie. The music that made him famous was lightweight but fun. This, by contrast, feels like a trudge.

Despite these moments [“NBA YoungBoat” and “66”], it’s disheartening that virtually every lyric from Yachty on Lil Boat 2 is wholly unmemorable.

Yachty still tries to be cool and less of what people say he is (A positive & happy kind of rapper). I also admit I like the style change, I like the production, but Yachty doesn't really do much to make any song on this album stand out or beg for a second listen. 'Lil Boat 2' is a one time listen, better than the first record... but not the first 'Lil Boat'. Only a baby step in the right direction. Expand

This tape is 17 tracks long and only 3 of the tracks are under the 'Lil Yachty' character who is more singing oriented. This lack of variety makes the tape turn stale really quick. Most songs sound way too similar which ends much making the Lil Yachty tracks more refreshing. What made the first Lil Boat mixtape enjoyable, was that it had character and variety. The first tape had charm that made it funny and listenable. This tape falls into the trend of just flexing the chains you bought, the cars you drive and the hoes you ****

He needs to stopI can respect Lil Yachty a little for trying to rap but he really can't rap at all. The bars come off as wack and childish. He needs to stop rapping about the haters too because it sounds like he's obsessing over what they say. To be honest, he has given them a very valid argument after releasing this album. Hopefully Lil Yachty will recover and grow but at this rate, his rap career will be over soon. Kudos to the production at times even though Yachty offered little in return. Expand
