more of the same from them, except for the fact that the production has taken a step backwards.

Pernice Brothers can do no wrong. An excellent outing as usual.

Pernice is still not back to being on par with his two classics The World Is Not Enough and Yours Mine & Ours, but this is still great and is a step above last years still great Discover A Lovelier You. I think this is a good direction for Pernice; I think his days of the rocking out exhibited on Yours is over and rightfully so. Did you see the guy on Gilmore Girls? He looks 70 for fucks Pernice is still not back to being on par with his two classics The World Is Not Enough and Yours Mine & Ours, but this is still great and is a step above last years still great Discover A Lovelier You. Anway, this is a solid album and reminds me of a sub-par World Is Not Enough. "Cruelty To Animals" and "PCH One" are classic Pernice Brothers tracks. Check it out. Expand

As time marches on, and the vast listening throngs continue to favor rhythm over melody, there is very little current music that I even consider listenable. But the Pernice Brothers is now tops in giving great aural pleasure. After all, "The World Won't End" remains the best album of the new millennium. Some brave artists can still shine: the Lolas, Chixdiggit!, Fountains of Wayne, As time marches on, and the vast listening throngs continue to favor rhythm over melody, there is very little current music that I even consider listenable. Some brave artists can still shine: the Lolas, Chixdiggit!, Fountains of Wayne, Spinning Jennies/Well Wishers, Starflyer 59, Ron Sexsmith, Bill Ricchini. But the Pernice Brothers tops them all, and this album builds on their reputation. It makes me yearn for yet one more Shoes album - which I know will never come. Sigh. Expand

Joe may be the most gifted "pop" writer of the 00's! Quite possibly their best...and that's saying something! Like all the others, you'll instantly connect with certain tracks, but the album really doesn't pay off in full until the fourth or fifth listen. Then, like me, you may not be able to stop playing it.

One critic said this was bland around the edges. Not in the least. It's a bright, inventive, fun-filled delight. A great and giddy thing. If you like 'Summertime pop' with heaps of style and wit, this would be a great addition to your collection.

  1. Live a Little sounds more open and roomy than the past few Pernice Brothers efforts.
  2. Pernice's unblemished voice is the key instrument.
  3. No alarms, no surprises.
