Nov 28, 2022Obviously, this isn’t a standard Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers concert — see above for plenty of those — but for people who love the sound of a band stretching, showing off, challenging each other and having fun, it’s hard to think of many better albums. ... The album captures what is arguably the best lineup of the band since its original one, with stellar backing vocals from bassist Howie Epstein and auxiliary Heartbreaker Scott Thurston.

Nov 28, 2022Cuts like “Shakin’ All Over” illustrate how Petty and the Heartbreakers are individually and collectively rediscovering themselves as players and singers as they move out of their shared comfort zone. Even when the ensemble is sharing the stage, they transcend mere showmanship to depict their recommitment to the roots of their music.

Nov 28, 2022Live At The Fillmore 1997 stands as both an outstanding document of a great rock'n'roll band at full throttle - and as good a live album as has been made by anybody. [Jan 2023, p.32]

Dec 2, 2022It could be argued that Live at the Fillmore, 1997 is the definitive live portrait of Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers: not only do they sound mighty, this freewheeling eclecticism rooted in 1960s rock and pop is the best showcase of the band's aesthetic.

Dec 6, 2022Live at the Fillmore sounds and feels vibrant and inviting, and it is curated with obvious attention and care.

Classic Rock MagazineNov 28, 2022The band's evident love for the material floods the performances, even though they can overdo the jamming when they get a groove going and reverence dampens Hooker's guest spot. But Petty's own songs, deployed sparingly, sound infinitely fresher and tighter. [Dec 2022, p.85]
