Was lucky enough to see them on their U.S. tour promoting "Plunge." Upon leaving I couldn't stop thinking about some of the new versions of old tracks they performed, how the live troupe changed their structures into thudding, addictive dance tracks ("I'm Not Done" is a standout that has been reconceptualized as a total BANGER!!). I repeatedly found myself thinking "karin needs to release a live album." And i felt hopeful, because she had released a live album after her first album as Fever Ray.

Then lo and behold, my dreams came TRUE. Though no recording can fully capture the energy of memorable live performance- this album comes really, really close. Epic tour made from epic albums- a fantastic live album results. Perfect for when you've overplayed her studio albums and want to change it up.

Live At The Troxy shows how the highly personal world of that album [Plunge] develops further onstage.

The downside to Live at Troxy is the obviously lacking visual dimensions these same songs enjoyed for the crowd present. A video companion would have made for an ideal package. At the same time, Fever Ray's live offering serves as a better intro for their music than either studio release. These fleshed out recordings still pull off every sonic trick from the studio only with greater weight and charisma.

Live at The Troxy is still a gem of a record that acts as affirmation for those who were there that the show was as spectacular as they remember, and as a legitimate teaser for those who want to catch Fever Ray live next time she’s in town.
